What to Expect in Couples Counseling:
A Collaborative First Session that Includes the Gottman Assessment Phases
We'll explore what brings you in, what each partner hopes to change, and begin the Gottman-Informed Assessment Phase. We will use:
-
A structured couples assessment
-
Individual Meetings with each partner
-
Standardized Gottman Questionnaires
This helps build a complete picture of your relationship dynamics, including the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship, and tailor our work to your specific relationship needs.
Clear & Collaborative Treatment Goals
After the assessment phase, we create a collaborative plan that outlines the focus areas in couples counseling, what tools and interventions will be most helpful in addressing those focus areas, and what realistic expectations of "success" can look like in couples therapy.
Skill-Building & Practice
Sessions will focus on building communication skills, practicing repair attempts, strengthening Love Maps, and improving conflict management, so you can apply what you learn between sessions and create more connection, understanding, and resilience at home.
A Respectful, Judgment-Free Space
You are welcomed exactly as you are.We support all identities, relationship structures, and neurotypes, honoring each partner's lived experience with curiosity, compassion, and respect.
